Utilize your HID

Today, although prompted by strict government regulation (FFIEC, Sarbanes-Oxley, HIPAA, HITECH) very few organizations actually use two-factor authentication. As with many new technologies, there has been the traditional “chicken and egg” problem: How can you roll-out two-factor authentication and the associated policies organization-wide if you don’t first issue smart cards to every employee? Zvetco addresses this fundamental problem by “connecting” Windows® to the market’s most widespread card technology–the HID physical access control card. Windows, by itself, was designed to support only two authentication models: Username/Password and contact smart card (PKI). Zvetco extends that model to include contactless card technologies.

Immediately, 200+ million computer users can use the card they carry today for physical access as a second authentication factor for logging into their desktop, Citrix network, web access, client server applications and more. This alone significantly reduces the most troublesome barriers to adoption of strong authentication–start-up cost and inflexible deployment.

Supporting Heterogenous Environments

With Zvetco Biometrics, one can easily extend the benefits of proximity cards to the desktop level providing additional protection, which is critical for meeting and exceeding government regulations such as HIPAA, FFIEC, Sarbanes-Oxley, Dodd/Frank and more. Zvetco Biometrics supports heterogeneous environments including: HID Proximity, iCLASS®, MIFARE® as well as incorporating Zvetco’s devices in the same installation. This greatly enhances security while maintaining the ease-of-use that all users demand.

Critical Platform Features

Authentication
Verification of users’ claimed identities by using one or more of the following: secrets (what you know), tokens (what you have) and biometrics (what you are).

Authorization
Determination that a user is authorized to carry out a particular action, such as logging on to a VPN, running an application, accessing a database, etc.

Audit
Detailed logging of authentication and authorization actions, with the ability to review and analyze logs to uncover suspicious activities, failures, etc.

Administration
System administrators can enroll users and define policies that control authentication and authorization for particular users, user groups, or applications.

User Acceptance

Convenience
Security functionality should be easy to use, so that users will not attempt to bypass it.

Flexibility
Different applications call for different security measures, therefore security layers must be flexible in order to provide the right level of protection to the problem being addressed. Zvetco delivers the widest range of authentication methods available today including: smart cards, fingerprint biometrics, contactless or proximity cards, OTP tokens and more.

Centralization
Administrators must be able to manage the entire system in a consolidated and integrated manner, from a central or multiple locations.

Benefits of Biometric HID Solution

  • Strengthen security via two-factor authentication, inhibiting breaches and malware.
  • Enhance compliance with strong authentication, policy enforcement and event logging.
  • Increase productivity with rapid login, reduced help desk calls, and self-service access management.
  • Extend value of door-access card investment

Convenience and Security

Integrity
Authentication data (such as user authenticators), biometric/terminal/workstation communication, as well as policy and system settings are secured and protected from tampering and forgery by other applications, hackers, etc.

Confidentiality
Secret application data as well as authentication and authorization information is encrypted to protect it from access by unauthorized users, hackers, etc. The data is encrypted both, at rest and in transmission.

Non-Repudiation
Logging of security events that are supported by biometric authentication prevents users from claiming that an action occurred without their knowledge and acceptance.
